How a Sassy T-Shirt Helped Me Take My Power Back (and Start a Brand While I Was at It)

How a Sassy T-Shirt Helped Me Take My Power Back (and Start a Brand While I Was at It)

Let’s just say I grew up in a lively household — the oldest of six kids, where chaos was the norm and quiet time was a luxury. From an early age, I became the unofficial team captain: organizing, helping, juggling, and learning how to put others first (whether I wanted to or not!). I got really good at powering through, keeping it together, and doing what needed to be done — no matter how I felt.

That “work hard, stay strong” mindset followed me into adulthood. I pushed myself constantly, determined to prove my worth, support others, and rise to every challenge. But somewhere along the way, I realized I’d lost my off-switch.

When your job expects you to be available 24/7 and your own brain refuses to clock out, burnout comes fast. I found myself craving a way to hit pause — a way to say to the world (and myself): respect your time off.

I needed a reminder to step back, be present, and let things go. As much as I loved being needed, it was also exhausting. Setting boundaries didn’t come naturally to me, but even my team encouraged me to take a breath and trust they could handle things.

That’s when the idea clicked. I needed something bold, something fun — and most of all, something me.

Don’t talk to me, it’s my day off  became my mantra. It made people laugh, but it also gave me permission to protect my space.

It was a boundary in a T-shirt. A message to others, and a reminder to myself.

Throw in my sassy personality and voilà! Soso Blue was born. Of course, my very first product HAD to say Don’t talk to me, it’s my day off — because I genuinely wanted to wear it every day 😊

Even now, I love rocking my T-shirt or phone case whenever I’m embracing that “day off” energy. Because we all deserve to rest, recharge, and have a little fun doing it.
